Education / Which Mushroom
Which Mushroom Is Right for You
We grow three sacred strains by hand in the Sierra Foothills, plus Lion's Mane, the one functional mushroom that won't shift your state. Each has its own character, and potency varies from fruit to fruit, so we always say start low.
This page describes character and experience honestly. It is not a list of health outcomes. If you are new, the quick version below is the place to start.
Where to start
If you want the gentlest way in
Hillbilly Pumpkin
Warm and light. Social, easy to be around, and manageable rather than intense. It's where most people begin, and potency varies from fruit to fruit, so start low.
If you want to stay clear and grounded
Ecuadorian
Clear-headed and calm instead of heavily visual. Steady and grounded, good for quiet, intentional reflection.
Find it in Dried Fruits or the Sampler.
If you want something ceremonial
Pakalensis
Emotionally open and rich, with a ceremonial depth from its lineage near Palenque. Immersive but not overwhelming.
Find it in Dried Fruits or the Sampler.
If you just want focus
Lion's Mane
Not one of the sacred three, and it won't shift your state. A functional mushroom for focus and nervous-system support. We grow it alongside the others and pair it into Twilight.
Find it in Twilight.
The three sacred strains, in depth
Hillbilly Pumpkin
A folk strain with Appalachian roots, prized for its gentle, mood-elevating character. Hillbilly Pumpkin leans toward warmth and lightness. Laughter comes easily, music sounds richer, and the experience stays manageable rather than intense. A natural starting point. Potency varies from fruit to fruit, so we always say start low.
Ecuadorian
Born in the high-altitude cloud forests of the Andes, Ecuadorian is the steady, clear-headed one. Where some varieties lean heavily visual, this strain offers grounded introspection and mental clarity. It carries a calm, deliberate quality that has made it a favorite for intentional inner work across generations of Andean tradition.
Find it in Dried Fruits or the Sampler.
Pakalensis
Foraged near the sacred Mayan ruins of Palenque in the jungle of Chiapas and named for Pakal the Great, Pakalensis carries genuine ceremonial lineage. The character is emotionally expressive and sensorially rich, cognitively illuminating with a touch of ancestral connection. Immersive without becoming overwhelming.
Find it in Dried Fruits or the Sampler.
And one that won't shift your state
Lion's Mane is not one of the sacred three. It is a functional mushroom that supports focus and nervous-system health, and it won't alter how you feel. We grow it beside the others by the same hands and pair it into Twilight: focus from one, grounding from the other.
Where to begin on dose
Take this gently. Cadence and dose belong to you, not to the product. Here is how the lineup lays out, from the softest way in to weighing your own.
- The gentlest way in: Twilight. 150mg of Hillbilly Pumpkin with 150mg of Lion's Mane per capsule, a micro-dose lift and nothing stronger.
- The mushroom on its own: Eclipse. 300mg of Hillbilly Pumpkin per capsule. A step up, gentle but present. This is above a microdose, so treat it that way.
- Weigh and meet the fruit yourself: Dried Fruits. Whole fruiting bodies you measure on your own terms. Begin lower than you think.
- The whole range: the LUNA Sampler. The easiest way to meet everything we grow in one box.
For structured protocols and a first-timer walkthrough, read the Microdosing Protocol and the First-Time Journey Guide.
This is not for everyone. If you have a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder, approach with real caution, ideally with medical guidance. SSRIs and other serotonergic medications may blunt or unpredictably interact with the experience. The First-Time Journey Guide covers readiness in full.
Not for use while pregnant or nursing, or before driving or operating machinery. Set, setting, and start low. We are farmers and stewards who grow this by hand, not therapists and not researchers, and nothing here is medical advice.
